The Crypto Train I Never Hopped On: Why I Prefer Real Money & My Debit Card

Updated: Oct 4, 2023

Picture this: It's 2020, and a mysterious digital currency called Bitcoin has just splashed across your social media pages, captivating the attention of techy folks and finance gurus alike. People frantically scramble to jump on the crypto Gladys Knight midnight train, trying to seize an opportunity that could change their lives. Among them stood one particularly unconvinced 5'3 , 35 year old ( at the time) Pisces - me. My discernment said... " nah Trish, this may not be it" . While others embarked on the Laronde- like ferris wheel ride that is cryptocurrency, I remained stubbornly loyal to my trusted real money and debit card. Allow me to humorously explain why I never hopped on the crypto craze but still hold out hope for its future.

Section 1: The Comfort of Real Money/ Debit Oh, cash and tap! That beautifully tactile medium of exchange we've all fondly held in our hands. Real money is like your favorite house dress- reliable, and slightly linty. There's something immensely satisfying about the feel of those bills or just using your easily accessible debit card , as opposed to staring at a so-called crypto wallet that resides inside a mysterious digital vault. Navigating the complexity of cryptocurrency wallets, exchanges, private keys, and public addresses can be a daunting task. ( if you did not know, then you know now) Real money, on the other hand, has been tried and tested over centuries, proving its reliability time and again. Plus, imagine paying for a slice of pizza with Bitcoin, only to realize it's not worth enough to buy an entire pizza chain! Talk about indigestion-inducing regret and if you know me well, you know Miss Trish loves her PIZZA! - Meat lovers to be exact! Section 2: My Crypto-Skepticism, Deftly Balanced Before you label me a crypto hater, let me make one thing clear - I'm not here to bash cryptocurrencies. Bitcoin, Ethereum, Dogecoin - they all have their charm and potential. I understand and respect the technological innovation they represent. It's just that, personally, I've never felt the need to dive headfirst into the crypto ocean. For me, it's like the first time I watched the movie B.A.PS but decided not to invest in a blonde up-do like Halle Berry!

. Perhaps I missed the initial crypto hype, but I'm keeping my eye on the horizon. Who knows? In a decade or so, we might be trading our dollar bills for holographic representations of virtual coins... Maybe just Maybe...

Section 3: Real Money Meets Virtual Potential While real money has proven its staying power over the centuries, it undoubtedly faces its fair share of challenges. The world is moving faster than ever by digitizing, and so should our means of exchange. Crypto enthusiasts argue that cryptocurrencies offer exciting possibilities, free from traditional banking systems, their high ass monthly fees, and their associated limitations of how many transactions you can do. What if, in the not-so-distant future( like as close as 2025), we witness the emergence of a safe, user-friendly, and widely adopted cryptocurrency? One that combines the trust and simplicity of real money with the magic of its virtual counterpart? Imagine a world where we could buy our morning coffee with a cryptocurrency that is as universally recognized and widely accepted as our existing currencies. It's not as crazy as it sounds because with the way that the world is going right now, anything can happen right?

ALL IN ALL Here is my lighthearted tale of never hopping on the crypto train. Laugh if you will, but remember that I'm not dismissing the revolutionary potential of digital currencies. In the future, we might marvel at the quaintness of not seeing any actual bills anymore, just as we now marvel at typewriters, cd's and dvd's. Until then, I'll cheerfully dig into my real-money wallet while keeping an open mind and awaiting the arrival of a crypto equivalent that could change everything. Let me go tap my debit card now!
